District of Innovation Plan Renewal

The current District of Innovation Plan will expire on December 31, 2022. A public meeting regarding DOI update and renewal was held on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 5:30 PM in the library. The District of Innovation Committee voted 11-0 to approve the plan and send it to the Board of Trustees for consideration. The proposed plan was posted October 12, 2022 until the board met to consider the plan on November 17, 2022 at its regular November meeting. The board voted 7 - 0 with all members present to ratify the new District of Innovation Plan which will go into effect on January 1, 2023.

Introduction

HB 1842 was passed during the 84th Texas Legislative Session in Spring 2015, and provides Texas public school districts the opportunity to be designated as Districts of Innovation. To access these flexibilities, a school district must adopt an innovation plan, as set forth in the Texas Education Code Chapter 12A.

Resolution

On November 20, 2017, the Lometa Independent School District's Board of Trustees passed a Resolution to Initiate the Process of Designation as a District of Innovation in order to support innovation and local initiatives to improve student learning.

Public Hearing and Establishment of DOI Committee

On November 20, 2017 the Lometa ISD Board of Trustees held a public hearing regarding the pursuit of the designation of District of Innovation. The Board of Trustees appointed the District of Innovation Committee to develop this Local Innovation Plan. The committee represents various stakeholders across the district, including teachers, parents, campus administration, district administration, and Board of Trustees. The committee met on November 27, 2017 and November 30, 2017.

The finalized plan was posted on the district website on Dec 1, 2017 and can be accessed below:

Final Approval

The Lometa ISD Site-Based Committee consider and approved the plan on January 15, 2018. It was forwarded to the Lometa ISD school board at their regularly scheduled January meeting on January 18, 2018. It was approved by the board on January 18 and Lometa ISD became a District of Innovation.
